Lead Developer on Censorship.No Project Full-time

eQualit.ie is seeking an experienced software developer to lead a tight-knit team bringing censored Web content into the most restrictive network environments. Your contribution will include architecture design, specification and implementation of an anonymous p2p routing and caching infrastructure that borrows from and improves on the capabilities of our current tool CENO. With you leading a development team we will release CENO2, supporting users ability to browse dynamic websites as well as retrieving cached content from the network. CENO2 will be cross-platform, localized, extensible and well documented. It will have a user experience that is relevant to our target audience and will feature security properties based on their threat model.


Collaborating with our peers, partners and a team of three other engineers, as well as colleagues from the rest of the organization, you will have a guiding role in delivering the project. Your duties will include :

Providing technical expertise and guidance on the system’s architecture, design and implementation
Facilitating the selection of the right tools and technologies for the project
Contributing to decisions about development priorities, including incorporating changes to reflect user feedback
Working with the Technical Projects Coordinator to maintain progress and overcome obstacles
Coaching and leading other developers, supporting their work and helping them to improve their skills
Liaising with our external partners and help champion the project outside the company
Helping us improve how we develop software
Becoming a better and more knowledgeable developer in this field through on-the-job learning, research and experimentation.
You should have

5+ years experience with object oriented programming including Java || C++
Experience in network programming and p2p technologies
Understanding of HTTP, TCP/IP, UDP protocols
Familiarity with mix networks, distributed filesystems, onion and garlic routing, probabilistic graph based routing algorithms, cryptography
It would be great if you also had

Demonstrable experience in developing p2p software, e.g. Bittorrent, Freenet, I2P
Excellent development credentials and years of experience working with a variety of technologies
Knowledge of Internet censorship techniques and familiarity with pluggable transports and their role in censorship circumvention
Familiarity with security and privacy concerns related to communicating online, both from a technical and a human viewpoint
A strong desire to work on free and open-source software
A sense of purpose in defending human rights online
