The position of Engagement Program Manager will play a critical role in Access’ mission to engage users in the fight to defend digital rights worldwide, seek their feedback on critical issues, and solicit their support in Access’ campaigns and initiatives. This position is creative, analytical, and strategic, and is an opportunity for someone interested in growing and implementing their skills and experiences through a commitment to digital rights.

We’re looking for a strategic thinker with innovative campaign, online fundraising, and community development experience, with a aptitude for data analysis and evidence-based decision making. This position will help develop and execute our global outreach and engagement strategy, run our campaigns, manage our web properties, and provide strategic support and consultation for our regional initiatives and partner organizations. They will be the lead on community engagement and growth on social media, email lists, and other outreach channels. They will develop our online fundraising strategy for community engagement and income generation, and execute and manage fundraising campaigns.

They will participate in developing advocacy content, including video, blog, social media, graphic and image materials, based on the priorities and needs of our technology and policy teams.

The Program Manager will report to the Director of Strategy and Engagement, and will have 1-2 interns as direct reports.

The work will include the following responsibilities:

* Developing novel and innovative effective campaign and advocacy approaches to advance policy and technical objectives * Advising and managing the execution of campaigns that engage our roughly 400,000 strong global community and other audiences of varying degrees of engagement, backgrounds, and languages. * Developing and implementing a digital fundraising strategy that builds an engaged community, optimizing current online income streams and identifying new ways to raise money online; * Collaborating with a diverse set of organizations and individuals to advance community and sectoral objectives. * Analyzing and testing campaign metrics and key performance indicators to ensure best practices and lessons learned and presenting these metrics and outcomes to senior management * Managing existing digital assets: BSD website, social media accounts, email list, and special projects * Creating a more metric-driven culture, setting, measuring, and communicating goals * Collaborating deeply within and across arms to manage innovation, advise and guide digital ideas and plans, and support various internal functions with digital solutions

Position Requirements:

The most compelling candidate will have a deep knowledge of innovations in digital campaigning, community cultivation, and fundraising. Global experience and outlook are highly desired, human rights or humanitarian experience a plus. Experience and skills required:

* Minimum 2 years of progressively responsible relevant professional experience (communication, campaigning, advocacy, public relations, fundraising, journalism) in outreach positions (campaigner, strategist, community manager), preferably in the non-profit sector; or meaningful experience working in a high-level position for a major digital organizing program; * Organizing and campaigning experience and an understanding of digital trends and communications strategies; the ability to apply these towards complex and concurrent advocacy and policy goals; * Experience developing compelling digital fundraising content that converts readers to action-takers and generates community-driven income; * Experience creating digital campaign content strategies using innovative and inexpensive approaches; * Strong understanding of digital organizing and fundraising tools, including email lists, CMS & CRM systems, social media, data analytics; * Experience with online community management and growing engaged communities; * Excellent expository and persuasive writing and editing skills; * Strong project management skills; experience managing projects and relationships involving technical staff and contractors * Ability to meet and prioritize multiple deadlines and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in fast-paced, high-pressure environment; * Knowledge of front-end programming languages (CSS, HTML), image editing software (CS6), and statistical analysis and reporting a plus; * Language skills, particularly Spanish a plus

The LRMI Project Manager is a full time position reporting to CC’s Director of Global Learning and works closely with the Education and Technology teams, as well as with policy and legal staff.

Purpose of Job

The LRMI Project Manager will provide general oversight of the internal project staff and subcontractors, and ensure LRMI work plans are clearly articulated and timelines adhered to. This position:

project manages all CC LRMI grants and deliverables;
serves as the primary contact for all LRMI subcontractors and external stakeholders;
leads the LRMI technical working group listserv and meetings;

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manage the day-to-day operations and activities of the LRMI project.
Develop LRMI project schedules and processes to ensure community satisfaction, project continuity and timely delivery of project outcomes.
Work with schema.org (Google, Bing and Yahoo) to formally adopt LRMI and integrate LRMI into their search engine interfaces.
Work with the Director of Global learning to get states and school districts to understand the value of requiring LRMI marked content in their RFPs and other procurement processes.
Sort out the long-term plan for the technical working group and overall governance of the LRMI specification and advocacy.
Partner with AEP to ensure the educational assets we deliver for LRMI are top notch and make sense to lay and technical types alike.
Provide ongoing liaising and expertise to organizations implementing or considering CC tools (especially LRMI), including educational, government and gallery, library, archive and museum institutions.
Develop (via meetings, other communications, and preparation of materials) key potential LRMI adopters and supporters as requested.
Represent CC at / liaise with strategically high impact conferences and other events.
Assist the Director of Global Learning with other duties as assigned, including the Department of Labor “OPEN” project, the School of Open and the Open Policy Network.

Skill Requirements

Expertise and interest in connecting Creative Commons issues intelligently, coherently, and in scope with our mission with regard to copyright and related technology policy issues (including LRMI).
Thorough understanding of open licensing, open education and the importance of meta-data.

Position Details:

Wikipedian-in-Residence role:

• Assist METRO membership in their understanding and use of Wikipedia
• Provide training and guidance on Wikipedia/Wikimedia use and WikiProjects
• Assist membership with releasing collection content into Wikimedia (or other) Commons
• Organize and host at least one Wikimedia-related special event or workshop

Open Data role:

The Technology Manager will have the following primary responsibilities:

Community Support Internship

Description of Internship

The summer intern will assist our remotely-based Regional Coordinators to facilitate collaborative projects among CC’s global volunteer network and provide general support for regional activities.

Responsibilities

Assisting with the production of educational toolkits and standardised materials on specific topics/domains Assisting with preparations for our Global Summit in Buenos Aires in August Coordinating group translation of identified documents Recruiting affiliates for working groups and coordinating activities General support of affiliate communications, consultation and coordination General office tasks as required

In addition to contributing to real-time work projects, intern/s will be invited to participate in external meetings, staff meetings, inter-organization competitions and discussions, and potential evening events. Staff will encourage the intern to also self-organize visits to local organizations, and to find ways to connect with various community members.

Requirements

Open to students enrolled across the spectrum of disciplines and at different levels of academic study including undergraduate, graduate and PhD. programs. Open to international students who are eligible to work abroad from an accredited university and/or through a third-party work-study program. Ideal applicants have experience in community organizing, management, and/or communications, and are involved in free/open culture movement. Applicants must be fluent in English. Having a second language is a plus. Applicants should also be familiar with the open movement and issues relating to copyright, technology, and creativity on the Internet. Ideal applicants work well independently, as part of a team and across teams with excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.

Stipend

Creative Commons offers a stipend of 4.632,15 € ($6,000), if not otherwise covered by grant funding, for 10 weeks during the summer of 2013 (June-August). Exact dates of the internship are flexible. If your school offers a stipend for work-study or internships, this factor is figured into the compensation. Interns are not employees of Creative Commons, and will not be entitled to any benefits provided to CC employees. Interns must make their own housing, insurance, and transportation arrangements.

Work Environment

The internship is based at Creative Commons offices located in downtown Mountain View, California, easily accessible via car and public transportation. The facility is an open pod setting; amenities include a communal kitchen and free parking. Intern is supervised by the Global Network Manager but will also be interacting with internationally-based staff and volunteers, so some late night and early morning work may be required.

Purpose of job

Assist Creative Commons and the CC Global Network team with organizational planning, strategic communications, community building, and fundraising in Europe in support of the organization’s mission, goals and objectives.

Primary focuses of the position in 2013 include affiliate support, community development and coordinating collaborative projects, particularly in the fields of policy and education.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Support and encourage Creative Common’s European affiliate teams, including facilitating the accomplishment of objectives expressed in the Affiliate Memorandums of Understanding
Cultivate and support sustainable regional initiatives that advance the organization’s mission
Advise CC and affiliates on regional resource needs
Identify and assist with regional fundraising opportunities
Foster relationships with region’s professional organizations, advocacy groups, and other individuals and community organizations to promote use of Creative Commons legal and technical tools
Identify and foster new potential affiliate teams, particularly in priority areas and countries
Represent Creative Commons in regional and international fora, particularly in relation to European policy developments
Promote consistent messaging; publicize CC-related activities
Encourage coordinated and harmonized translation of CC materials, where appropriate
Facilitate planning and implementation of regional web presence
Field requests for information and interviews with key stakeholders and commentators
Identify and coordinate opportunities for policy statements relevant to region and/or globally Co-organize regional meetings, when appropriate, and play a key role in planning global meetings 
Facilitate and support self-organization and the development of inter- and intra-regional governance and leadership
Coordinate the preparation of an annual regional roadmap in collaboration with CC and affiliates in the region (the regional roadmap describes goals, objectives, and risks in the region; it includes strategic events and partnerships, fundraising opportunities, license and tool adoption, community building activities, and inter-regional activities)
Prepare regular reports regarding objectives, successes, and challenges

Education requirements

Four-year college degree or equivalent experience; advanced degree preferred.

Experience requirements

3-5 years of involvement in free/open culture movement, ideally within the CC affiliate network

Skills and qualifications

Fluency in English, second language competency a plus Ideally lives or travels frequently within the region Familiarity with the open movement and issues relating to copyright, technology, and creativity on the internet Community management experience a plus Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and across teams Confidence in representing the organization in a wide range of public forums Exceptional management skills including time, project and staff Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills Ability to respond flexibly and graciously to unanticipated requests and assignments

Job environment

Ideally located remotely, working out of Europe. Creative Commons promotes a collaborative, community-building atmosphere grounded in an environment of mutual respect and trust. Position will require travel, including international and occasional on-site visits to Creative Commons headquarters in Mountain View, California, USA. More than one person may share position.
