Front-end Developer Full-time

We’re hiring a mid-level front-end developer to advance our user interface into a reliable and trustworthy consumer cloud storage experience. In this role, you will be responsible for building and improving our web client, liaising with a team of mobile app developers, and building partner integrations. You will work closely with a small, tight-knit engineering team and our entire staff to meet the needs of Permanent members. This role offers an opportunity to take real ownership of the product, make decisions about the future of the Permanent technology stack, and pitch in across the entire organization.

Permanent is a growing, mission-driven, non-profit organization with a sustainable revenue model that wants to make it possible for everyday people to preserve their digital legacy. As the lead front-end developer, you’ll be responsible for transforming user needs communicated by our member success manager into tangible improvements to our system. You will be uniquely positioned to drive growth by improving our user experience and expanding our services. You should be able to envision what Permanent could become far into the future and how your contributions will help get us there.

Basic Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience as a front-end developer building web applications
  • High degree of interest in improving user experience
  • Experience with Angular or another Typescript/Javascript front-end framework

We’ll be impressed if you also bring:

  • Experience with Node / Express applications
  • Experience with PHP or other server-side languages
  • Capable of routine system administration tasks
  • Comfortable learning deployment pipelines and working with infrastructure
  • Experience writing open source software, or interest in learning more about it
  • Comfortable with open source development practices

Location
The Permanent office is located in Austin, Texas but staff work remotely under flexible, full time schedules. Staff colocated in the Austin region have access to the office and some annual (or more frequent) all-staff meetings will be held in person, when it is safe to return to in person co-working again. Full consideration will be given to remote work candidates located within 3 hours of U.S. Central time zone provided they will be actively present during normal weekday working hours, available with reasonable notice, and able to attend scheduled video meetings with their colleagues without hinderance.
