About KDE

KDE is an international community dedicated to developing Free and Open Source Software for end users. Contributions are made by thousands of talented volunteer contributors (developers, artists, marketers, translators, documentation writers, etc.) from all over the world, working on software like a desktop environment, graphics applications, PIM programs, games, educational software and more. KDE e.V. is the legal organization behind KDE, that represents and supports the community.

About the role

KDE Software is shipped on many different kinds of devices. We are looking for somebody with a good understanding of Free Software operating systems who can help us ensure our technology shines on hardware, especially on products where KDE has a prominent presence.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Your task will range from discussing with manufacturers and evaluating the kind of hardware they are planning to ship to making sure that it’s viable for KDE to support it either by implementing the features or by coordinating with the different teams to make sure this can happen in a timely manner. This will eventually require collaborating with the system integration communities to ensure our users are getting an optimal experience.

Qualifications and skills

• Experience in Free and Open Source software development, especially working with volunteers and working within a community.
• Good communication and leadership skills.
• Understanding of the hardware business and ecosystem.
• Understanding of the base technologies that our products are based on, namely Linux, Qt, Mesa, (?) etc.
• Ability to solve technical issues as they arise.
